Incident Hemodialysis Patients are at High Risk of Sudden Cardiac Death Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is the single largest cause of mortality in chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage-5D patients. 1 out of 4 deaths is from SCD.1 Patients who are new to dialysis are of particularly high risk, as 1 in 7 incident dialysis patients may die within the first 6 months.2 It’s important to manage the risk of SCD in patients undergoing hemodialysis.
