Can You GROW New Lungs? |
|
| | Matthew Makowski Senior Health Researcher |
| | | It's no secret that smoking is a dangerous habit with serious consequences. It doesn't matter whether someone smokes a single cigarette a day or a whole pack a day.
Breathing issues, chronic lung disease, cancer... Those are just some of the risks.
Research has shown that it causes as many as 10,000 extra mutations in 90% of lung cells. That amounts to 10,000 additional opportunities to develop lung cancer.
And that is a big reason lung cancer remains the most deadly form of cancer. It's estimated that 80% to 90% of lung cancer deaths can be attributed to tobacco exposure.
But a new study published in the journal Nature revealed great news for folks who have already kicked the habit... and some serious motivation for those who are considering it.
So even if you've never smoked a day in your life, it's likely you know someone who has or does... So this message is worth sharing...
Researchers found that it's never too late to reap the health benefits of quitting.
Because once you do, you begin growing a new, undamaged set of lungs.
This is incredible... |

Rapid Repair
The study showed that quitting smoking doesn't just initiate the repair of damage to the lungs... It showed that those who quit almost immediately start growing new, healthy lung cells.
Even for folks who had smoked at least a pack a day for 40 years.
These new cells show up quickly to repair damage done to the lining of the airways.
And in a matter of months after quitting, the lungs significantly repair themselves to the point that there is almost no evidence the person had ever smoked in the first place.
An Unexpected Ally
Quitting a habit of any kind can feel like a Herculean task.
I've watched friends and family anxiously chew through packs of nicotine gum...
They apply patch after patch hoping to reduce cravings.
Big Pharma's even tried to get in on the action. There are plenty of prescription meds that are supposed to help folks quit.
And naturally, they come with the usual list of harmful side effects like an increased risk of heart attack or stroke, possibly kidney failure, and suicidal thoughts.
With complications like those, smokers can feel like they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.
But one of the most powerful tools I've seen firsthand to help folks quit is acupuncture.
I'm not going to pretend to understand the physiological response this triggers. But for some reason, acupuncture drastically reduces cravings for many people.
And unlike whatever Big Pharma's shelling out, it comes with no dangerous side effects.
If you - or someone you know - is interested in finally quitting for good, check out the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine directory here.
You just drop in your zip code and it'll direct you to practitioners near you.
The body's ability to heal itself is pretty remarkable.
And this research is more proof that it's happy to reward us for moving in a healthy direction.
