Banks, Fraud, and Formaldehyde

A few days ago, the authorities raided all the major banks in France, which are now facing over $1 billion in fines for money laundering and tax evasion.

Editor's Note: As investors flee the stock market in record numbers this month and shovel billions of dollars into cash and money market funds, there's a big update to the banking crisis story that deserves your attention.

Our friend Marc Chaikin just broke it down so well for us, we knew we had to share it with you...

Banks, Fraud, and Formaldehyde

Dear Reader,

I wanted to bring your attention to an important story that's gotten little coverage in the media, outside of Bloomberg and Reuters.

(Unfortunately, it happened after my banking crisis briefing... otherwise I would've covered it.)

A few days ago, the authorities raided all the major banks in France, which are now facing over $1 billion in fines for money laundering and tax evasion.

And it's not just France. Authorities around the world – from Germany to the UK to Puerto Rico – are now cracking down on banks.

Why? You already know the answer: Silicon Valley Bank.

SVB's collapse this spring triggered a global wave of investigations into major financial crimes... and it appears fraud in the global banking system is everywhere.

However, it isn't just in the banking system.

It can occur even in the most mundane companies, even well-known brands you know, that you'd never expect.

For example, back in January of 2014, a flooring retailer named Lumber Liquidators flashed SELL in the Power Gauge.

I wasn't sure why...

Profits had jumped 58%, and the stock was trending above $100.

But the Power Gauge convinced me not to go near it.

I found out why on August 16, 2015.

That's the day 60 Minutes blew the whistle and revealed the nature of the fraud driving the company's profits.

Lumber Liquidators was selling floors with formaldehyde – a known cancer-causing chemical.

They ended up paying a $33 million fine to the SEC. Today, their stock barely breaks $4 on a good day. And the company has changed their name to LL Flooring Holdings, to escape the bad publicity.

The sad fact is, there will always be bad actors out there... but thanks to the Power Gauge, you can have the tools to spot problems ahead of time and avoid a lot of heartache.

In fact, one of my favorite indicators just showed me exactly where the market's going next in 2023.

What I'm seeing is so big, I just released an emergency briefing about it...

Including how these recent bank collapses could affect you in the coming months.

You don't want to miss this. We're heading into an historic moment, one we've only seen a handful of times since 1950.

Go here to see my prediction.

Sincerely,

Marc Chaikin

P.S. We've talked a lot about trust in this e-mail. There's nothing more important in the world, in my opinion.

And when you watch my prediction today... I'll be introducing you to someone who's our new "secret weapon" at Chaikin Analytics, and the ONLY person I trust to partner with.

He's a self-made multi-millionaire who began collecting rare gold and silver coins before he was 10-years old... and cashed out at the peak in 2011.

He got his start as a professional investor when he was hired as one of the youngest traders in Fidelity's 77-year history.

He co-founded a private wealth management company, where he grew assets from $17 million to more than $150 million in less than three years.

And he's got a track record like no other. He nailed the bottom of the COVID crash in 2020... the top of the bull market in 2021... and the exact day gold peaked in 2022.

I can't wait for you to meet him.
