Jamaica on track to remove King Charles as head of state by 2025, minister says Jamaica is on track to remove King Charles III as its head of state by 2025, the nation's state foreign minister has said.   Alando Terrelonge, a member of parliament and state minister, said the nation is gearing towards becoming a republic after more than 350 years of colonial rule.   The move means the former British colony will become "truly liberated" while honouring its African ancestors who were trafficked, brutalised and enslaved by Britain for centuries, he told me during an exclusive interview for The Independent.   Read the full article. Black maternal health campaign scoops big award Tinuke Awe and Clotilde Rebecca Abe (pictured above), two trailblazing Black mums and founders behind Five X More CIC, picked up a Daily Mail Inspirational Women Award last week.   The accolade, brought in partnership with M&S, acknowledges the duo's work on changing and highlighting poor Black maternal health outcomes in the UK.   When Five X More launched in 2019, Black mums faced a five-fold risk of dying during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, hence the organisation's name. Now, Black women are four times more likely - a stark disparity all the same. 'Profiting from selling African body parts': Auction house slammed over sale of Black human remains A UK auction house has been criticised for selling African human remains to the highest bidder.   Semley Auctions, based in Dorset, is advertising Ancient Egyptian people's skulls for an estimate of up to £300 for sale in a move that's been slammed as unethical and "sickening" by academics, writers and campaigners.   According to listings, the remains were originally unearthed from tombs in El Wadi, the southwestern region of Egypt in north Africa, in 1881 by Lieutenant-General Augustus Pitt-Rivers, who is often referred to as the "father of British archaeology". Minister insists thousands of missing asylum seekers lined up for Rwanda deportation 'will be found' Thousands of asylum seekers who stopped contacting the Home Office after being earmarked for deportation to Rwanda "will be found", a cabinet minister has vowed.   Police raids are among a "range of measures" set to be used to find and remove them, health secretary Victoria Atkins suggested.   She told Sky News: "We want the message to go out loud and clear that if somebody doesn't report as they should do, they shouldn't think that they'll get away with it. Lilian Seenoi-Barr set to become Northern Ireland's first Black mayor  Councillor Lilian Seenoi-Barr is set to become the first Black mayor in Northern Ireland.   The politician, who arrived in Northern Ireland as a refugee in 2010, has been selected as the newest mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council.   This comes after she made history as the first Black politician to be elected to public office in Northern Ireland last year, when she was elected as a councillor in the Foyleside district of Derry.
