Dan Amoss:

Trump’s 25% Tariff Threat Is Challenging the Auto Industry

As President Donald Trump’s threat to impose 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico as soon as Saturday looms, the global automotive industry is collectively holding its breath.

Tariffs could have a massive effect on the global automotive industry and potentially reduce earnings for companies such as GM, which has significant manufacturing operations across North America.

Nearly every major automaker operating in the U.S. has at least one plant in Mexico, including the six top-selling automakers, which accounted for more than 70% of U.S. sales in 2024.

But not all producers would face the same disruptions. On a percentage of sales basis, German automaker Volkswagen is the most exposed to tariff risk in Mexico, followed by Nissan Motor and Stellantis, S&P Global Mobility reports.

Dems Worry Kash Patel Could Weaponize FBI Against Political Enemies Like They Did

In a Senate confirmation hearing on Thursday, feckless Democrat senators grilled Kash Patel, President Donald Trump’s nominee for FBI director, trying to paint him as a Trump henchman hellbent on seeking revenge for all the crap the FBI put Trump and American citizens through.

It’s no wonder they are worried; the nation has seen how the FBI has been turned into a political weapon, and Democrats don’t want it pointed at them. Democrat senators pressured Patel to give assurances he would protect the jobs of FBI employees involved with the attempted Trump take-down, no matter what.

Senators, among the highest elected officials in the nation (some with law degrees and a grasp of the language), trotted out false statements and shady “facts” and refused to accept Patel's answers. They wasted the resources of the American people by using this time for their desperate attempts to flex their suddenly muted political power.

Maybe they can do some real work tomorrow.

The Real Reason Colombia Folded

The first major international challenge to Donald Trump’s deportation plans came on Sunday, when Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro refused to allow a military plane of manacled illegal intruders on American soil to land and disgorge its fettered cargo.

The full suite of coercive tools Trump employed in response was breathtaking both in its scope and its immediacy. More interesting yet was the immediate suspension of Colombian visas, a direct strike against the Colombian political class.

The United States is the playground for the wealthy and well-connected in the region—they vacation here, many have family and important business and political connections here, and most importantly, their children are educated here.

Faced with an internal crisis over the cancelled visas and looming economic threats, the Colombian government folded just one hour later. In other words, Trump just showed the world how serious he is about ensuring what he sees as American interests are respected.
