Good Morning! Turbo is the word of the day, as more than half the Porsches sold over the weekend were turbocharged. Everything from 911 Turbos and Cayenne Diesels (turbo V6) to a transaxle 924 Turbo crossed the block. The latter is today’s Spotlight Car. |

The 924 Turbo debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show as Porsche’s answer to enthusiasts wanting more performance from the entry-level 924. By adding a turbocharger to the 2.0-liter inline-four, output jumped from ~110 to 143 horsepower in North American specification, giving the lightweight transaxle coupe a much-needed boost in straight-line performance. Upgraded brakes, revised suspension, improved aerodynamics, and distinctive NACA ducting in the hood further separated the Turbo from the standard 924, creating a far more capable sports car while retaining the balanced handling that made the 924 such an enjoyable driver’s car. |
This 1981 924 Turbo 5-Speed came finished in Meteor Metallic over a Black leatherette interior and showed 88,000 miles. While the gallery revealed a few cosmetic blemishes, including a cracked dashboard, the car appeared to be a solid driver. The fuel injection system was serviced in 2024, though the seller did note a valve cover leak. Also included in the sale were a spare set of wheels, Pasha-trimmed door cards, and a collection of additional spare parts. |
Over the past twelve months, only two 924 Turbos have crossed the online auction block, with just one finding a new home: a Guards Red example showing 94,000 miles that had its engine rebuilt at 77,000 miles, selling for a final bid of $13,000. While our Spotlight Car was a bit light on service history, it still presented as a solid driver-quality example. It sold at a final bid of $9,540. |

When it was time to sell my beloved C4S, I had all the options available to me. I could have listed it privately, but I didn’t want to deal with weeks of inquiries from buyers who needed financing, lowballers (I know what I got!), or tire-kickers coming to my house. I could have gone the auction route, and I’m well versed there, of course, but I just didn’t have the time to properly list the car or manage the process. I’ve got writing to do. |
In the end, I sold it to a dealer. It was simply easier, and the offer landed right in line with where I would have estimated it had I been writing about it here. |
But I really wish I had known SML reader Niket was launching VinBidders. |
VinBidders is an alternative designed specifically for vehicles like ours, promising strong value for a fraction of the effort. You submit your car in about five minutes. They send an inspector to your driveway and handle the full photo gallery at no cost to you. From there, a network of 30+ verified dealers places blind bids, competing against each other, with no public listing, no VIN history attached to the transaction, and no audience. You only pay $149 if the car sells, and the winning dealer handles all the paperwork, logistics, and payoff. Most sellers get through the process from listing to sale in under a week. |
These dealers NEED your car. And let’s be honest, they’re typically the winning bidders online anyway. Put it in front of them in five minutes and get started with VinBidders today. And if you'd like to use VinBidders to sell your car, promo code STMKT will get you $100 off the seller's listing fee so you pay only $49 and only if your car sells. |

Not only was this THE year for the 997.1 Turbo, but this 2009 911 Turbo Coupe 6-Speed came finished in a gorgeous color combination of Aqua Blue Metallic over a Brown Natural Leather interior. Showing just 39,000 miles on the odometer, this example looked to be in nice condition with plenty of service records in the gallery. It sold at a final bid of $165,000 against a high estimate of $160,400.
This 1985 911 Carrera Coupe failed to sell back in December of last year at a final bid of $56,250, but saw quite the jump this time around. Finished in Guards Red over a Champagne leather interior, this Carrera 3.2 showed 58,000 miles on the clock and had plenty of work completed in 2025 and 2026 along with leakdown results in the gallery. It hammered this time around at a final bid of $91,000, on the higher side of the $71-114,000 estimate.
When I wrote about this 2001 911 Turbo Coupe 6-Speed last week, I said that it would take a couple of bumperette-lovers to get this one over the $100k mark as it was light on pictures and service history. Welp, it looks like there were a few in the house as this 24,000-mile Arctic Silver over Black 996 sold at a final bid of $101,000.

This is the second four-cam 356 to hit the block this week, but unlike the other, this 1957 356A Carrera GS Sunroof Coupe is here in the US instead of Germany. The car was repainted in its factory color of Silver ~12 years ago and the interior was reupholstered in Black leather in the early 2000s. The replacement 547/1 flat-four was overhauled in 2002 by Karl Hloch and was reportedly removed for service by the selling dealer upon purchase. Buyers are going to need a bit more information than “removed by dealer” along with some more detailed pics of the undercarriage for this to get in the money. That money being somewhere in the neighborhood of the two other examples that have sold this year between $412,663 and 511,000.
This 1998 911 Carrera 4S Coupe 6-Speed was well-specced from the factory with the Motor Sound Package along with Aerokit front and rear spoilers. Finished in Arctic Silver over Black, it shows 53,000 miles on a repaired odometer, but that repair appears to have been immediate so the miles are probably a non-issue. Overall, it’s a very well cared for example with an excellent story in the comments. Should bring $200k+ when the hammer drops next week.
The last time we saw this 2002 911 Turbo Coupe 6-Speed was back in August of 2024 when it sold at a final bid of $58,000. Now with 5k more miles for a total of 81k on the clock, this Arctic Silver Metallic over Black 996 Turbo looks to still be in nice condition and has received plenty of work since that purchase including installing a 997 shifter, a Rennline pedal set, Bilstein dampers, clear side markers, body-color rear bumperettes, and 997 ignition coils. In this market, it should bring more than it’s previous bid, maybe even up into the mid-$70s.
