The Playbook

Coffee Time: Cenote
1010 E Cesar Chavez; Central East; 512.524.1311
Just opened by the Futureman (with help from his presentwoman), this cafe was built into an 1887 church, then given a mint green paint job and furnishings by the folks behind the Christlike Real World Austin house, which even they've forgotten about by now. A full food menu's forthcoming, but the current satiation stand-out is Rockstar bagels (made daily on-site), with buzzes coming courtesy of French presses and Clever pour-overs of Cuvee, as well as on-tap brews including Rio Blanco Pale, Left Hand Milk Stout, and Lost Gold IPA, which unlike mythical troves is definitely Real.
See details of their restoration process at CenoteAustin.com

Eat: Tony's Jamaican Food
E 11th St & Lydia St; Central East; 512.945.5090
Helmed by a Negril native who's been jerking chicken since he was 12yrs old, Tony's is a shanty-like, Jamaican flag-adorned trailer in the also-somewhat-phallic Purple Bean's old spot, serving a straightforward menu of island eats like the aforementioned chicken (Tony'll give you a sauce sample if you're not immediately sold, probably because you're a jerk), garlic or curried shrimp, and empanada-like chicken or beef patties.
Call ahead of time to request specials like curried goat or oxtail. Walk up to the trailer right here.

Celebrate Bad Habits: Austin Beer Festival
Sat, Mar 31st at Travis County Expo Center: 7311 Farm to Market Road 3177; Central East; 512.888.0888
This weekend the Travis County Expo Center hosts a sudsy celebration of over 500 beers, counting imports (five Belgians from St. Bernardus, four Scots from Belhaven), TX newcomers like South Austin Brewing and Adelbert's, and non-continental domestics like Maui Brewing Co's most natural pairing: Bikini Blonde and Big Swell.
You bet there's three stages of bands and DJs. See the master beer list at TheAustinBeerFest.com.

High Definition: Cover 2
13701 Research Blvd; North-West Austin; 512.506.9935
The "little brother" to Anderson Ln's upscale sports spot is a former Hooters up-classed with substantial granite community tables and a whopping 25 HDs, under which you'll suckle 25 taps, and take down the likes of Mongolian wings, green chile beef enchiladas, chicken-fried beef tenderloin sliders, and the all-beef, foot-long, chili/jalapeno/onion Homewrecker, not the first time a few extra inches ruined a marriage.

Martini Time: Bar Louie
123 W 6th St; Downtown; 512.730.3050
Opening its first Austin location, Bar Louie is an expansive, highball-centric downtown tavern boasting two walls of taps along a wooden bartop that rivals the longest in town, and eats ranging from Bavarian Pretzel Sticks (w/ cinnamon butter, queso, honey mustard) to blackened Voodoo Chicken with andouille sausage. Beyond that beer, they've got 14 martinis, plus cocktails like the blood orange vodka/grenadine/Red Bull "Wing Man", which can be your wing man anytime... during normal bar hours.
