Inside: This Week in Autos This was a historic week for GM. The car company not only celebrated its 100th birthday but it also unveiled the production model of its highly anticipated plug-in electric car, the Chevy Volt. The importance of the Volt cannot be underestimated to GM's long-term success. If it can successfully bring an affordable, practical and fun-to-drive electric car to market before the competition, it will have critical first-mover advantage, something that could help it drive back to profitability. Pricing information isn't available yet but when it comes to market in 2010 it will sell for more than $30K, go from 0 to 60 in 9 seconds (two seconds faster than the Prius) and will have 40 miles on a single charge. For those who can't wait until 2010 to get a car with better gas-mileage, this week senior correspondent David Kiley has a list of suggestions for drivers looking to trade in their gas-guzzlers for something more fuel-efficient. Driving a Ford F150 putting you in the poor house? Try a Ford Focus instead, for annual gas savings of around $1,400. Elsewhere this week we test drove the new BMW X6 crossover and, frankly, found it wanting.
