The explosion in open standards allowed interoperable products to be manufactured much more cheaply. Supply increased significantly, giving consumers more products to choose from at lower prices. But, there’s a dark side to these changes. More supply has created a race-to-the-bottom price war in which, as it turns out, there ultimately will be few winners. That’s the stance of Robert Messer (News - Alert), president of ABP Technology, a specialty distributor of communications equipment.
