[:] Web Site Measurement Hacks
Trying to figure out if all that Web design and development is effective is a whole different process than setting up the site itself. The process of measuring how someone uses your Web site, who they are, and why they did it can be very difficult. However, Eric Peterson has put together a book that can help alleviate much of the work.
The book is titled "Web Site Measurement Hacks," and is published by O'Reilly. Its main focus is providing "hacks" that you can use or adapt to your Web site to measure its effectiveness. These are not hacks for breaking into systems; rather they are techniques for understanding how your visitors use your Web site.
Eric, who has been working in Web analytics since 1998 in both a technical and a marketing capacity, has teamed together with some of the best in the business to bring some exciting hacks; people like Brett Hunt (founder of Coremetrics), Jay McCarthy (of Web Side Story), and Steve Turner (author of Analog). Together they present 100 hacks for use on your Web site. The book is divided in seven chapters, highlighting different topics of Web measurement: Web Measurement Basics; Implementation and Setup; Online Marketing Measurement; Measuring Web Site Usability; Technographics and Demographics; Web Measurement and the Online Retail Model; and Reporting Strategies and Key Performance Indicators.
Together, these seven chapters contain a wealth of material and experience from seasoned professionals. These hacks will enable you to gain a better understanding and comprehension of how your Web site is actually used in the real world. You may have designed it to be used one way but, in the real world, your visitors may actually be using it in an entirely different way. In order to better serve them, and attract additional visitors, you should know what changes need to be done to enhance the interaction with your visitors.
If you're looking to understand what makes your site, and your visitors, tick, you need to check out this book. It's written for the beginning to intermediate analytics user.

[:] Pagejacking
The activity of stealing content (typically in the form of source code) from a Web site and copying it into another Web site in order to siphon some of the original sites traffic to the copied Web pages. Pagejackers rely on search engines to spider the contents of the illegitimate site and index the results so that the copied site will appear in the search result rankings along with the original sites rankings. Users can be tricked into thinking the illegitimate site is the one they are searching for, and once they visit the copied site they may be subjected to mousetrapping.
