From the Editor

Before we get started with the party: make sure you sign in and update your zip code and other profile data <http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=4861931> in the profile center. If you don't update your information before May 15th, you won't continue to receive great local information. If you have never customized Flash before, this is a great time to start. Get your copy tailor-made, with local events and only the topics you care about. Now, on with the party.

Happy Birthday! No, it's not my real birthday (that's in three weeks), but it is my one-year anniversary of writing this column. What better way to celebrate than with some great presents?

I have always been a Visual Basic developer at heart. Even though I started life with C and C++, and have done plenty of C# work, I have always had a fondness for VB. So what better present than a free Visual Basic 2005 training CD from AppDev <http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=4151880>? You get free training from a leader in the field, and a CD produced with Visual Basic expert and frequent MSDN Magazine contributor Ken Getz.

Speaking of MSDN Magazine, the entire May edition <http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=4861932> is available online. This month's edition features articles on using Visual Basic 6.0 and Visual Basic 2005 together, 64-bit development, and using the CLR to help you debug.

I received another great gift from the Mobile PC and Tablet PC teams that I would like to share. Check out the sample reference application, Fabrikam Fine Furniture <http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=4861933>, to download the source code and learn to build applications for the Mobile PC and Tablet PC.

That's about all for the birthday presents; however, as a reminder, don't forget that Tech·Ed 2006 is coming up fast, June 11th to the 16th, in Boston. There are a few spots remaining, so hurry, get more information, and sign up today <http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=4861934>.

It's sunny in Seattle (a rare but welcome birthday present), so it's time to kick back and enjoy the celebration.

Happy coding!

Brad McCabe
