The Art of Serial Entrepreneurship – A Conversation with Mukund MohanBeing an entrepreneur takes a certain personality makeup that includes stubborn optimism, visionary leadership and a passion to solve a problem or fill a need that no one else has done or that you can do better. Mukund Mohan is one of those people. He started his "Entrepreneur's Journey" back in the mid 1990's building a company that was sold to USWeb and then another one that was sold to VerticalNet. Despite the ability to take time off he joined Mercury Interactive in 2001 and stayed until 2006 to dive back into the entrepreneurial pool. About six months ago he started his latest venture, BuzzGain, which ready to launch in about a month. I was able to spend some time with him recently and here is a transcript of our interview: Steve: Your personal blog, Best Engaging Communities, is about social networking and building communities. How did this come to be as your passion and focus? Steve: What is BuzzGain and why did you create it? Steve: Did you raise any capital for this particular venture? Steve: What would you like to see happen over the next 18 months for BuzzGain? Steve: What kind of things should an entrepreneur do to keep excited and engaged in their venture during the inevitable tough times? Steve: Finally, what do you think are the top five characteristics of a successful entrepreneur? Yahoo Buzz offers more than DiggI’ve been seeing the Yahoo Buzz button around on blogs. About a week Yahoo’s Buzz became available to all publishers. They started with a select group but you can use it now too even though it’s still in beta.
Yahoo’s Buzz is very similar to Digg’s service but in a much bigger way. The audience is incredibly large. Yahoo is putting the trends of what people are searching for on their home page which sends huge amounts of traffic to the articles that people have buzzed up & chosen as popular. Users can’t submit your own articles but you can put the Buzz button on your posts & encourage your readers to buzz them. Because the posts have the potential of sending 10 times the traffic that Digg posts do it seems lucrative. (And that’s assuming that the post has made it to the Digg front page). You can also host a Yahoo Buzz widget on your blog or site. This would continually refresh the news stories that people have voted for. For further reading ProBlogger has an article on it.
