Bus It: #19
1112 E 6th St; Central East
Opened yesterday by a restauranteur disillusioned with city building permits, #19's a blazing red double-decker bus (the only one ever manufactured in America!) that's starting out with just one item: a monstrous cheese-steak topped with sauteed green peppers, onions, mushrooms, and white American cheese. The bus' name actually comes from the Clash song "Rudie Can't Fail" -- which was true, right up until she got rid of those pigtails.

From a former barista and Whole Foods employee, this silver trailer parked behind Cheer Up Charlie's dishes out astonishingly tasty, non-meaty lunch and late-night grub with plates like organic tempeh chili w/ daiya cheese, avocado, and jalapeno (straight up, in a frito pie, or burrito-style), a mock chick'n salad sammie, an avocado/tomato/Braggs amino acid "Slamwich" (named after the Hargrave Arcade founder), and a quesadilla with organic bell peppers/onion, melted daiya, El Milagro tortillas, and a homemade, tofu-like protein called seitan -- whose menu price of $7 shall hereafter be known as "the number of the beast".

Victory Grill hosts a 4-course orgy of local organics curated by salami sensei Salt & Time, beginning with battered and fried seasonal veggies and fresh chicharrones courtesy of Richardson Farms; a pickle plate with Animal Farm carrots; Fruitful Hill beets; and Hillside Farms brussel sprouts; and the headliner, a pancetta wrapped mortadella link of pork/bison served on a roll from Barrie Baked Goods. No, not Marion, that's Barrie with a "-y", but yes, crack would go awesome with mortadella.
Dessert will be Orange Saffron Pound Cake with Honey Zabaglione and Seasonal Fruit. You can buy tickets at the door, but cop them early to ensure a successful pig-out.

Dance the Robot: Baconator vs. The Thingamabots
Saturday May 29 at ND inside 501 Studios: 501 I-35; Central East
Hoping to break the Guinness record for costumed robot dancers (429!), B vs T is inviting all comers to fully participate in this freak-out somehow themed after bacon, international frying pan politics, Russian robots, and time-travel. Beyond the joy of record-setting, there'll be free Bacardi mojitos and Deep Eddy vodka, plenty of tin foil and cardboard for costumes, and, if the DJs are worth a damn, innumerable spins of Will Smith's undeniable I, Robot hit, "Humans Just Don't Understand".
