Downtown Architectural Walking Tour - East: The Heart of St. Louis. Metropolis offers a two-hour walking tour of the Heart of Downtown Saint Louis. The tour will explore the rich history and architectural legacy of the eastern side of Downtown, from the founding of the City through its modern development and continuing re-development. The tour will include the Old Cathedral, the Post Office District, the Wainwright Building, and the Eads Bridge, as well as modern contributions to the City's rich urban fabric such as the Arch, the General American Life Insurance Building and Busch Stadium.
Where : The tour begins outside the western entrance to the Old Courthouse, on Broadway between Market and Chestnut, opposite Kiener Plaza.
Downtown Architectural Walking Tour - West: : Beyond the Arch. Metropolis, a volunteer organization dedicated to promoting the City of St. Louis, will offer a two-hour walking tour, highlighting the little known history and architectural significance of downtown St. Louis' Memorial Plaza and surrounding district. Historic buildings will include the Kiel Opera House, City Hall, the Soldiers Memorial, among others, and focus on how they played a role in the development and continuing re-development of the city.
Where: The tour begins on the sidewalk outside the Grand Hall/hotel entrance to Union Station just west of 18th street on Market. For more information, or to schedule a tour on a day other than Saturday, please email architecture@mstl.org. |
