Welcome to the New Zealand StartupDigest!
On Tuesday 22nd February, New Zealand was shocked by news of a devastating earthquake that struck our second largest city, Christchurch. A huge civil defence operation is currently underway, but sadly the final death toll is expected to be in the hundreds and the reconstruction cost many billions. Search and rescue teams from all over the world are pouring into the city to assist and for that we are most appreciative. More about the social and economic impact of this event and some useful links can be found in my blog article.
New Zealand StartupDigest is curated by: Paul Spence, co-founder of iWantMyName and manager for Unlimited Potential's W2W, New Zealand's leading showcase event for emerging web and software startups. He can be found on Twitter @GeniusNet.
This event has been happening online over the weekend. But you can still volunteer or make use of resources on the CCSV website. The focus has been on deploying and updating this community disaster recovery and information aggregating platform.
