Welcome to the New Zealand StartupDigest! On Tuesday 22nd February, New Zealand was shocked by news of a devastating earthquake that struck our second largest city, Christchurch. A huge civil defence operation is currently underway, but sadly the final death toll is expected to be in the hundreds and the reconstruction cost many billions. Search and rescue teams from all over the world are pouring into the city to assist and for that we are most appreciative. More about the social and economic impact of this event and some useful links can be found in my blog article. For anyone wishing to donate to the earthquake relief fund, we recommend the New Zealand Red Cross website or the social giving site Give A Little.
