Greetings Indiana -

This week's tip...

I want to address a misconception that a lot of people have
about hypnosis.

There seems to be plenty of people who believe that if you
remove a problem with hypnosis that it will re-emerge in
another form.

From this misconception people think that if I remove a
persons phobia of dogs they will become a compulsive
gambler.

Or if I remove someones fetish for humiliation and spanking
they will become depressed or violent.

The people who believe this are overlooking a few basic
facts about how I do hypnosis.

First, new problems emerge only if the subject firmly
believes it will happen and you don't deal with it in
the session.

That is why it's SOoooo important to give CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS
to the subconscious mind (The SubC).

Any hypnotist can instruct the Subc that "you will no
longer ______ " and get a result. What I do to prevent any
associated problems from arising I use the following
instructions:

"Starting ... NOW ... you know that what is better for
Jane is that she no longer ______________. And starting NOW,
you will help Jane to (new change in behavior) and do it in
a way that is safest and most supportive of Jane mentally,
physically and emotionally."

Those last few words are the difference that make the
difference. "...do it in a way that is safest and most
supportive of Jane mentally, physically and emotionally."

When the SubC agrees and accepts those instructions
problems solve themselves. You don't have to uncover
childhood traumas or surround them with a purple angelic
aura. The SubC mind simple solves the problem in the
way it was told.

A good example of this is a client who had a sexual
fetish which got in the way of his primary relationship.
As the hypnotist, no effort was made to figure our WHY
the fetish was there, that would be therapy. It was simply
suggested the compulsion go away in a fashion that was
MOST supportive of ALL the clients needs and values.
A few weeks after the session the client reported that
the compulsion was gone and things within his relationship
have dramatically improved.

Even more interesting was that the client open reported
that he knew that the compulsion/fetish came about from
being sexually abused and that now he can think back on
his abuse without the fear, anxiety or shame of before.
Now, his abuse is just a memory with no emotional content
to it.

This is quiet a revelation considering he was never
asked WHY the compulsion came about.

So next time you hypnotize someone make sure you GIVE
CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS.
