#ONEMoms: Community and entrepreneurship in KiberaI spent this morning reading about the ONEMoms' visit to Kibera, a large slum in the city of Karen, Kenya. They are meeting with women entrepreneurs and community leaders there, and are finding out just how much can be done with small infusions of money and support. Just as important, perhaps, is the hope they are encountering. Slum brings up immediate visions of poverty, filth, and despair, all of which undoubtedly exist. But the picture is incomplete; there is also a flourishing sense of empowerment and community. I will leave the storytelling to the ONEMoms: One.org blog: Sacrificing for Success Chookooloonks: Kenya, Day 4: On community and shedding light Jennifer James Online: Life in the Kenyan Slums for a Single Mom What you can doCheck out ONE's report "Africa's Future is Female" to learn more about how women are leading a revolution on the continent.
