The Bike Rack
The most convenient bike shop ever
8145 SE 82nd; Southeast; 503.360.1374
It's difficult to find something Portlanders love as much as food carts and bikes, unless it's, like, strip clubs, or brunch, or beer, or soccer, or things with birds on them…okay, maybe it's not so difficult. Anyway, merging the first two, for the first time: The Bike Rack.
Birthed by a genius with a passion to combine Portlanders' velo and parking lot-food desires, Rack's a compact, sculpture-bedecked, full-service bike shop nestled in the Cartlandia pod beside the Springwater bike path, where you can stop mid-ride to get your wheels worked on while filling your belly with infinitely more calories than you'll ever burn on that thing. Packed inside an awninged trailer, Rack offers all the services normally found in a standard shop, thanks to a seasoned mechanic who can do anything from changing a tube in about four minutes flat, to full tune-ups including wheel truing, brake/ shifter/ headset adjustments, and accessory installation, all while you snack on everything from 99-cent tacos to warm English pasties, which're great when it gets a little nip-y out. Rack also offers a selection of hardware like bells, bottle cages, Schwalbe road and hybrid tires, racks from Planet Bike, and a range of quick fuel like Emergen-C and Carb Boom energy gel, which DJ Pauly D applies multiple bottles of before working out.
Not content to just be the most convenient bike shop-cart in the city, Rack's also applying for a used-bike retail license so you can ride in on your old wheels, and ride out on your new-to-you ones. They also stress that anyone can stop in anytime for free chain lubes, plus air and water, which're two things Portlanders love ALMOST as much as super-short chilly summers.
