Danner's New Stumptown Boots
An old-school boot company delivering new-school style
Available at Tanner Goods: 1308 W Burnside; Downtown
Portland's history is pretty wild, what with organized crime bosses bootlegging liquor and loggers clear-cutting the city, earning it the name Stumptown, because apparently bootleg liquor and timber harvesting equal a lot of sawed-off limbs. Delivering boots inspired by a long history of Portland urban living: Danner's Stumptown collection.
From the legendary local boot-builder, Stump's a just-released run that, for the first time ever, tweaks the classic Vibram-soled, hand-stitched leather crap-kickers into lightweight urban jams, each named for an important event/ person in Portland history, while shockingly overlooking Katee Sackhoff. The newness:
Danner Light Lovejoy: Danner's '70s hiking boot was augmented for slick Tokyo street style by Japanese designers, and now's come home carrying black full-grain leather over cappuccino suede panels, and the name of the dude who paid 25 cents to buy the Port of Portland back in the day, which is a pretty good price for a glass of fortified wine. Oh, that kind of port? Not a bad deal either!
Mountain Light Elkins: Weighing a scant 2.8lbs and boasting a one-piece full-grain dark brown leather upper and low lug walking outsole, this boot's named after a notorious Portland gangster and made for "those long hard city nights", which according to residents' Diaries, are usually handled by Red Shoes.
Mountain Trail 1851: Based on archival pre-Danner Light hiking boot designs, the Mountain Trail has throwback pull-loops, a leather (rather than GORE-TEX) lining, and an outsole offering the classic waffled tread pattern, but not the heavy weight you'd expect after so many waffles.
Danner plans to keep the urban love flowing by rocking collaborations with the likes of Dunderdon and Tanner Goods while also going far beyond their norm with the soon-to-be-released blue suede-uppered Mountain Trail Willamette and a Chelsea-boot line called Vertigo, which the White Lightning can also take care of, Stumpy.
