Bolden Boosts NASA SLS, Commercial, Russian 'Semantics' Issue with SpaceX ISS Cargo Demo Flight

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden remarks today before the Air Force Association Air & Space Conference (#AFACONF) on September 19 including a discussion on the flurry of activity with the agency's Space Launch System (SLS), new commercial manned spacecraft R&D, and why there seems to be a “semantic issue” with the Russians around the upcoming International Space Station (ISS) SpaceX (News - Alert) cargo demo flight.

Bolden started off by rattling off the announcement of the new heavy lift rocket, the Space Launch System (SLS) and the flurry of activity around it, including the expectation of sending out a “preliminary RFP” by Friday, followed by an industry day in Huntsville, Alabama, on September 29. He described the SLS announcement as a “watershed moment” for NASA and later described the rocket as using “shuttle-derived” technology...
