Myths and Realities around the Space Station and America's Space Capabilities

When the Russian Progress 44 resupply mission took a crash dive into Siberia rather than going into orbit last week, media and politicians quickly started embarrassing themselves with a bunch of half-truths and falsehoods about the situation onboard the space station and the state of the U.S. space program. It’s giving me a headache to read some of the junk that is coming out.

Myth #1 – The International Space Station (ISS) is now short of food, water, fuel, and other essentials.

Reality: ISS is happily stocked up with food, water, and fuel. STS-135, the last space shuttle mission, was specifically sent up to put more than a year of food on the space station in case of further delays with U.S. commercial resupply services... Read More
