Rubber Re-Done
A place to put your tired ass
From a couple "greenies" who dogs find irresistible, and owners love because they reduce tartar and plaque have a serious thing for outdoor furniture, Rubber Re-Done is a line of robust, dude-worthy chairs and tables 100% made from repurposed tires, an idea birthed when one "J. Peterman-ish" partner grew fascinated with primitive radial-made furniture he saw while visiting the Mekong Delta, also an airline run by a giant, self-referential ape.
The Build: Rubber's patio pimpers are handbuilt in a non-mechanized bamboo shop by a couple of Indonesian craftsmen, who source landfill/ fire-bound motorcycle and truck tires from repair shops. After a thorough washing, they're cut, patterned out, and then woven, screwed, and bolted together, requiring no internal structure due to the strength and thickness of the rubber, which sounds like a fantastic Lifestyles product for old dudes.
The Goods: Each design works off the natural curvature of the tire to create ruggedly elegant options like the "Archie", an armchair with woven high back, armrests, and optional ottoman, or its partner "Edith", which despite being smaller, has a slight recline and offers a bouncy rocking. And because sitting sucks without a place to put your Zima, Rubber also puts out a low side table built from full tires, and a larger two-tiered coffee table resting on treaded supports above gently arched legs, another things dog find completely irresistible.
