Best of the Best
Like Chris Farley, this month's Best Of is packed with food and drink offerings, and tries really hard to be funny
Emailed on the 3rd: Altura Restaurant
Helmed by a husband and wife team (he'll do the cooking, she'll run the bizness) who legit met while crushing Deluxes at the nearby Dick's, Altura is classing up a former retail space by filling it with antique Euro furnishings, and exposing the brick chimney and fir structural beams in what is now a 40-seat dining room looked over by an angel reclaimed from a French chapel bombed during World War II.

Emailed on the 4th: Oola Distillery
Opened by a self-taught spirits maker and budding hotelier, this Cap Hill micro-distillery is one of a handful (so far) of Seattle hooch purveyors to take advantage of the state's relaxed production laws, in this case to turn out high-end swill handcrafted using mostly local ingredients in a copper still-equipped space inside the long-vacant La Panzanella Bakery building.

Emailed on the 6th: Momiji
Sounding suspiciously like the phonetic spelling of what people call Kenny G's mother (but actually meaning "maple tree"), this modernist sea-foodery from the sushi impresario behind Umi and Kushi Bar is, like Kenny's parents, divided in two: in front, there's a bar lit by a light installation that looks like a dramatic crushed picnic basket, and in back, there's a wood-heavy dining room wrapped around a glass-enclosed Kyoto-style garden where they're slinging a massive menu of Far East eats prepped with Near-Northwest ingredients.
If you don't feel immeasurably more peaceful after you click here, there might be something wrong with you. Or with the picture quality. Either way.

Emailed on the 7th: Marche
Surprisingly not named after Simon Le Bon's favorite department store, this convivial Franco-foodery from the accolade-heavy Iron Chef behind Cafe Campagne is serving up playful takes on traditional bistro fare using locally produced ingredients, and a whole range of imbibables (a creative wine list, local suds, specialty 'tails) in case you're not actually Hungry (Like The Wolf).
There're enough sweet pictures, here, to make you feel like you've been there already, but then you should have been -- this place opened, like, three whole weeks ago

Emailed on the 18th: Pecado Bueno
Opened by a guy with a hand in the ubiquitous Taco Del Mar, and various Neighborhood Grills, this fully boozed Mextaurant is slinging a taco-heavy lineup of street-style eats in a space boasting a 30-seat patio fitted with a massive fire pit, and a 60-seat Lucha Libre-arted dining room with a bar backed by jutting baskets stuffed with fruits like pineapples and bananas, no doubt leaving the bartenders frustrated that tips aren't the only things they have to tally.
This place says it's good right in the name...but if you NEED more proof, click here
