Thrillist Dallas

Spec's
Interstate Booze Song
9358 N Central Expy; North Dallas; 214.369.2800
Improbably moving into the old Central/Walnut Hill Toys R Us spot: Dallas' first Spec's Wines, Spirits, and Finer Foods, a sprawling wonderland of those last three things, started in Houston nearly 50yrs ago and still family-run, proving that wines & spirits actually keep families together (though those nefarious finer foods are another matter entirely). They're claiming over 35000 items in stock, including:
Deli: Lunch-meats galore, plus pre-mades from the Texas BLT (jalapeno-cheddar TX toast, jala-cured bacon, pepper Jack, chile ancho mayo), to a full-pound cheeseburger on muffaletta called the Hermenator -- when you're struggling to finish, just remember, "You play to win the game!"
Cigars: There are 1076 different options here, with just a few being Tatuaje el Triunfador, Ashton La Aroma de Cuba, and Kinky Friedman Texas Jewboy, which only comes pre-cut.
Beers: Twenty categories cover everything from "Budget 24oz Up" numbers, to Greece's Mythos and Belgium's Boucanier, to the full Celis, Green Flash, Mendocino, and Tommyknocker lineups, to Texans counting Austin Beerworks Pacemaker, Southern Star, and Oklahoma Sux, official beverage of the Insight Bowl.
Vinos: These hail from over 30 different countries, including 250+ from Texas alone, plus hard-to-finders like Hungarian Bull's Blood of Eger, Mexican Barajas Agave Wine, and Sovetskoe Sparkling, a post-Soviet Georgian wine that was probably five minutes from being a post-Soviet Russian wine.
Liquor: 600 vodkas (Australia's Boomerang!), 350+ tequilas (South Africa's Flore D'Agave?), and a boatload of whiskeys, from Balcones, to Rittenhouse Rye, to Ancient Age -- also why you're shopping here and not a Toys R Us.
Holy crap. They have 600 sauces, condiments, and chutneys, plus dozens and dozens of "medicines". Spend like an hour looking over their offerings at SpecsOnline.com.
