The Ultimate Guide to Technology Buying

PCMag.com handed out a lot of buying advice in 2011, on
everything from wireless routers to digital cameras. At the end
of each year, we wrap up all of coverage, put a bow on it, and
deliver it to you as our Ultimate Technology Buying Guide. If
you can't find what you are looking for here, it probably isn't
worth buying.

Fast Five Tops The Hangover II as Most Pirated Movie of 2011

TorrentFreak has released its list of the top downloaded movies
of 2011 and Thor, Harry Potter, and Source
Code all made the list. Interesting thing is, none of the
films grossed less than $60 million worldwide, and most grossed
well over $100 million. All that piracy doesn't seem to be
hurting them too badly.

Small Businesses Eye Tablets, Especially the iPad

I haven't finished my 2012 prediction column for PCMag.com yet,
but the growing popularity of the iPad in small businesses is
going to make the list. Large corporations will probably hold
off because the idea of "managed iPads" gives IT nightmares, but
small businesses will start making the switch this year, if only
because employees will be bringing their personal devices in
from home.

Verizon to charge $2 for paying your bill online or over the phone

Matthew Humphries at Geek.com has uncovered yet another hidden
fee--this time for paying your bill by phone or online. The
worst part about these petty surcharges is that no one is going
to change carriers over them. Most users may not even notice;
what is an extra buck or two added to the bill? All we can do is
register our complaint and wish corporations had some sense of
shame. Paper checks, sent by snail mail, carry no charge.

LG to Unveil 84-Inch 3DTV at CES

Each year at CES, all the HDTV vendors try to out-do each other
with an on-floor demo of the "worlds largest HDTV." Few of these
TVs ever make it to market, but they are definitely nice eye
candy. LG's submission this year is an 84-inch set with both 3D
and its Smart TV ecosystem. The really amazing thing is that it
has a 3480-by-2160 resolution--four times that of the standard
1080p set. I can't wait to see it in person.
