There's nothing wrong with setting the bar low, unless your backyard parties are exclusively filled with inflexible people with serious back issues. For a bar that's set at just about the right height, hit Elbow Room.
From a couple of SD folks who just "wanted a dive bar" but ended up with something a touch classier, ER impresses with a firepit-heated patio (accessed through a roll-up door), and an interior that screams "you don't even have to talk to girls while hanging in me" thanks to its two pool tables, shuffleboard, and gaming machines, all surrounded by pics of classic SD signs ("Aero Club", "El Cortez") & guitar replicas. Cocktails include Rocky'd out house specialties like the grape vodka/ Rockstar/ pineapple Balboa Bomber, and the JD/ lemonade/ Coke Balboa Tea, while the beer-inclined are taken care of by eight mostly crafty taps and copious bottles, including five buck Arrogant Bastards, who think they're worth at least eight. The food menu rocks potato skins, flatbreads & nachos in styles like Margarita (Brie and fresh basil) and Cantina (grilled pork/ blend of cheeses/ pico de gallo/ cilantro/ crema), plus burgers like the sweet onion/ banana pepper/ "Coney Island" chili Beast, as watching someone else eat it will turn you green with envy. No, wait, that's the Hulk.
Because you're well-liked in your community, they're bestowing daily discounts including a Mon-Thurs reverse happy hour (9p-close), all-day HH on Saturdays, and large vessels of from-scratch bloodies, margs, and every draft beer for $10 on "Pitcher Perfect Sundays", though too many may put your Monday productivity in serious limbo.
