Dandy's: The Gentleman's Store
Irrepressible menswear from when the old-school had just one room
Every Sunday at South Congress Vendor Market: 1600 S Congress Ave; South Austin
If you're needing a suit that looks nothing like what you'd find in a warehouse, head to Dandy's: The Gentleman's Store, a weekly SoCo pop-up of very-vintage-style garb from a husb/wife duo who started the biz when they couldn't find him wedding attire that matched their Gatsbian tastes, and didn't make him look like a Daisy.
The fully bespoke, 1870s-repro Sack Suits are cut-to-order by an Italian tailor in your choice of classic tweeds and plaids, and are complemented by suspenders (leather or elastic) and neckwear ranging from handmade bow ties, to wide, uneven 17th-century cravats, to a hybrid called the waterfall tie, sure to have steampunk babes chasing you down for TLC.
Further looks count headwear like the Panama Bowler and Desert Rat Top Hat, shoes covering eight colors of classic Madisons & lace-ups, houndstooth-topped brown leather boots, and surprisingly affordable refurnished pocket watches in aged brass, gunmetal, and quartz, all with ornately carved faces and exposed mechanics, meaning they'll screw you just like the ones in dirty movies. And the ones you take your car to.
Since so many of their styles are bespoke, they suggest you get measured at their pop-up, but are also working on a self-sizing guide for their online store, though you should probably be doted on in person if you really want to act like The Last Tycoon.
