7 Benefits of Swring-ing in Therapy

There is more to the Swring Swing than meets the eye: it also helps children develop balance, poise, strength and equilibrium.

Swring Swing1. Group cooperation, problem solving, turn-taking, fostering flexibility in typical playmate roles.

2. Improves balance and core strength.

3. Supports integration of the body moving in space for kids with gravitational insecurity

4. Supports bilateral coordination of arms/legs for climbing and transitioning body in/out of the SWRING

5. Supports neck/arm/trunk righting reactions which all translate to improving body position in space sensation, and increasing graded, controlled muscle responses, and appropriate timing with muscle responses

6. Vestibular/Spinning input increases alertness levels with great social emotional outcomes

7. Improves postural control and alignment - orthopedically-challenged kiddos, and kids with limited movement experiences quickly learn how to orient their bodies and align the spine vertically for more optimal posturing during face to face interactions and during UE/upper extremity functional tasks.

Activity: DIY Texture Boards

Materials:
  • Small, Wooden Cutting Board
  • Glue Gun
  • Ribbon
  • Magnets
  • Textures (sand paper, felt, foil, sponges, dried macaroni, pom poms, dusting glove)
Divide a small, wooden cutting board into four parts. After cutting and gluing your choice of tactile-fabulous objects, you may add a ribbon border around each section. You may glue strips of magnets to the back of each board so you can put them on the refrigerator.
The first board features sand paper, felt covered with contact paper or foil, sponges, and dried macaroni.

The second board has the shaggy part of a dusting glove, a green scrub sponge, shelf liner, and a cluster of little glitter pom-poms.
