Monica's Nueva Cocina and Mi Lounge
The legend's on the Lawn
4123 Cedar Springs Rd; Oak Lawn
Accomplishing a perfect split heretofore only attempted by Van Damme in his sexy-fu prime, Monica Green's new Oak Lawn opening is equal parts casual hangout (Mi Lounge) and dinner destination (Monica's Nueva Cocina). It soft-debuts a week from Thursday, so save it to My Thrillist, then read this 411 so you'll be properly armed upon your much-heralded arrival:
Mi Lounge: The Mi's adorned with wrestling masks, but your only struggle will be choosing which high-end tequila will wash down everything from Pescado al Mojo tacos (seasonal fish, green cabbage salpicon, habanero) to South American cazuelas like the egg, chicken, chorizo, pork belly, shrimp, and oyster sauce Arros Chaufa -- a dish heavily influenced by Chinese trade that's hugely popular in Lima, where high schoolers randomly break into heavily choreographed song every time it's served.
Monica's Nueva Cocina (dinner only): Monica's gone digital over here, in that the fish on the seasonal menu (dishes like pan-seared trout in almond caper sauce w/ root veggies & green rice) is conscientiously selected with the help of Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch app. Or, follow your straining heart to a meal of lamb breast, duck fat potatoes, and Oaxacan mole negro, a Monica favorite, as "there was a time you could've bought me with mole." And there is a time you could be bought with duck fat.
And now, the booze: climb a Sandia Peak (reposado, watermelon, Midori, sweet & sour), go green with the oj/mashed avo/Cointreau/silver tequila Avo Verda, or grab both, because even if you can't do JCVD splits, you're more than capable of a Double Team.

^ Tomorrow's National Tequila Day - In celebration of the Mexican spirit, Asador's running its teqs @ half-off, including their latest infusions.
