Utilizing his degrees from Colorado Christian University and the University of Colorado, he spent the next several years in business, running three fondue restaurants until he was appointed to fill a state representative's unexpired term in Idaho in 2007. Toward the end of that term in January 2008, he was writing a letter to the editorial page of the Idaho Press Tribune about the impact of communism and socialism on the United States when the memory of that meeting and its emphasis on using the environmental movement came back to him.
"They had a three-part agenda," he wrote. "They would use their manpower, influence and funds to back anything that would destroy our families, businesses and culture."
As he "dug into" the topic, he realized that using a variety of avenues to harm the Western culture was something they had been pursuing as early as the 1930's. "They've been trying to take over our schools, our media, Hollywood and all the institutions of influence. They want to try to influence us to become people who love big government and who want government involved in our lives."
