Forget Florentijn Hofman, You Can Have Your Own Giant Duck Posted: 02 Jun 2013 04:00 AM PDT We've already covered the story of Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman's famous giant rubber ducky that recently deflated while on display in China, but why concern yourself with a giant ducky you can never enjoy for yourself? Instead, why not head over to KK Inflatables, where you can buy similar rubber ducks, some in even larger sizes -a 20 meter tall duck can be yours for a little over $24,000. Now you just need a larger bath tub. |
The Legendary ET Video Game Dump Site Is Set For Excavation Posted: 02 Jun 2013 02:00 AM PDT Most Neatorama readers have probably heard the story of Atari burying a whole warehouse full of unsold ET video games at a dump in New Mexico. As it turns out, there was likely a whole lot more than just ET games burried by Atari, though no one really knows for sure what was tossed in the dump, especially since the whole thing was later burried in concrete. But all that's about to change now that the city of Alamogordo, home of the legendary landfill, has officially voted to allow a film company, Fuel Industries, six months to dig up the landfill and report what, exactly, they end up finding in the ruble. Are You Prepared for "Manos The Hands of Felt?" Posted: 02 Jun 2013 12:00 AM PDT Fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000 will no doubt immediately recognize the goofy reference above as a take on one of the show's most classic episodes, where the gang is forced to watch the utterly and completely terrible, Manos The Hands of Fate. So what, exactly is up with the puppet above, other than a terrible pun? Well, you'll be happy to know that thanks to Kickstarter, there will soon be a movie detailing the making of the movie featuring puppets. And in case you were wondering, yes, there will be song and dance numbers. You can get in on the action over at Kickstarter if you act right away (there's only about a day left) and only $5 will get you a digital download of the film when it's complete. Posted: 01 Jun 2013 11:00 PM PDT When a weird-looking wallaby joey was born at the Linton Zoo, keepers knew he was special right away and even named him ALF (Alien Life Form). What they didn't know was that little ALF would soon grow up to be an absolutely stunning albino wallaby. Though he's already half-grown now, he's a bit of a mama's boy and still tries to climb into mom's pouch for a little comfort. |
Posted: 01 Jun 2013 10:00 PM PDT It's barbecue season again, and while most people limit their grilling to meats and a few veggie sides, why not go all out and cook your dessert on the grill? As some one who has cooked all variety of things on the grill while waiting for the coals to cool down, I can tell you that grilled berries, stone fruits and pineapple are absolutely amazing. Add a little ice cream or chocolate and you've got yourself a dessert. I've also cooked donuts over a campfire (I really like roasting things on an open flame) and can assure you they would also be heavenly on the grill. |
Posted: 01 Jun 2013 09:00 PM PDT You'd better take this Vadering bride in sickness and in health...or else you'll be the one losing health, and fast. But hey, at least she looks beautiful on her special day of murdering. This great image was captured by photographer Ryan S Burkett, who I now want to shoot my wedding. |
Posted: 01 Jun 2013 08:00 PM PDT When Crafty Lil' Thing's daughter wanted to participate in the costume contest at her school's sock hop, she insisted on wearing a poodle skirt inspired by Doctor Who. Originally, she asked her mother to make one with a Dalek, but then she realized there was nothing more suitable for a poodle skirt than K-9. |
I'll Have S'more Pie Pops Please Posted: 01 Jun 2013 07:00 PM PDT S'mores and pie pops? Why are you even still reading this? Why aren't you running to the kitchen with the recipe in your hand yet? Oh, you say it's because it's not technically a s'more without graham crackers? Fair enough S'more snob, but you know these still look delicious. Link Via The Cake Bar |
It's Time to Fire Steven Moffat Posted: 01 Jun 2013 06:00 PM PDT Count me as one of the many people totally over Steven Moffat's rule of Doctor Who. If you still aren't convinced that his story lines have become totally ridiculous, then check out the random Doctor Who plot generator at Us vs Th3m. Here's one I just created: A flashback sequence introduces us to the Paradise Faction homeworld, but the Sonic Screwdriver picks up a gravity anomaly. The Doctor, Clara, and Clara’s two charges have tough choices to make about the Macra. The Doctor’s tears save the day. Katy from CBeebies features in a flashback sequence. Sounds like a legit Moffat episode to me. |
Posted: 01 Jun 2013 05:00 PM PDT Thursday night, New York City residents who are fans of Game of Thrones were able to enjoy A Feast of Fire and Ice at Percy's Tavern, thanks to the bar's owner, Larry Watson, and Westeros-themed bakery owner Claudia Smith. The event featured a costme contest, dead boars, goblets of poppy milk, fortune telling and more. Victoria McNally of Geekosystem was there and her pictres from the event are the next best thing to going in person. |

You Can't Make Me Leave This Bath Posted: 01 Jun 2013 04:00 PM PDT Most cats hate water, but this little guy looks just like me when I'm soaking in the tub...comfortable to the point where I refuse to budge, at least, untill the water gets cold again. Via Laughing Squid |
Oh Hound, When Will You Learn Not to Bring Your Trophies Home? Posted: 01 Jun 2013 03:00 PM PDT Game of Thrones might be all too serious in book and TV forms, but when approached by comic book artist Azad Injejikian, the characters become a never ending source of laughs. You can follow the zany stories of the Starks, Lannisters and the rest over at Comics of Ice & Fire (aka the link). Link Via Laughing Squid |
Chocolate Chip Cookies and Milk Cupcakes Posted: 01 Jun 2013 02:00 PM PDT If anything is better than chocolate chip cookies and milk, then it's chocolate chip cupcakes with chocolate chip cookie dough in the middle and milk-flavored frosting made with sweetened condensed milk. Don't forget to decorate them with a small cookie or milk-carton candy on top. |
Man Eats Live Scorpions Every Day Posted: 01 Jun 2013 01:00 PM PDT Does your mouth start watering whenever you see a scorpion skittering past you? Ismail Jasim Mohammed's does. This Iraqi farmer has been eating them daily for 15 years. It's become such a natural practice to him that he experiences withdrawal symptoms if he misses a few days without one. At the link, you can watch a video of him chowing down. |
Posted: 01 Jun 2013 12:00 PM PDT Yummy! And the recipe is so simple that even I can't screw it up! All it takes is instant banana pudding, Cool Whip, sliced bananas, milk and a one-pound bag of Oreo cookies. But just to be on the safe side, use two. Link -via Tasteologie |

Posted: 01 Jun 2013 10:00 AM PDT Once you've carefully machined your own set of Wolverine claws, what's next? Well, obviously, you should be able to arc electricity between them. Superhero-Inspired Children's Books We'd Really Like to Read Posted: 01 Jun 2013 09:00 AM PDT by Robert Rath by Bill Walko Brian Cronin of Comic Book Resources asked artists to submit images from rejected children's books. You can view them all at the link. Judy Bloom's classic Are You There God? It's Me, Rogue sadly, has not always been welcome in many libraries due to mutantphobia. Link -via Super Punch |
How to Say "May the Force Be with You" in Dothraki Posted: 01 Jun 2013 08:00 AM PDT Linguist David J. Peterson created the Dothraki language for the HBO television series Game of Thrones. Denise Martin of Vulture asked him to translate several popular phrases from outside of the Game of Thrones universe into Dothraki. He rendered Star Wars's iconic phrase "May the Force be with you" as "Athhajar ma yeroon." At the link, you can read and listen to Peterson's translations of lines from The Wire, Star Trek, Mad Men, The Office, There Will Be Blood, Breaking Bad and Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together."
