The Market Needs Crisis

Late last week I was pissed. I made some bad stock calls. And I couldn't remember symbols of stocks I wished to follow after losing them on my screen due to a miscalculated touch of a button.

 

It happened on Thursday, when the stock market endured a bloodbath not seen in 18 months.  Of course, that made my foul mood even worse. Once I settled down on Friday, I realized that while a whole slew of economists, analysts and even Federal Reserve members castigated Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke for his market-killing comments, it may turn out to be the best thing for us all.

 

No, we probably are not done with this downward trend as we approach a corrective phase. Still, the market was very tired and the last strands that held it together were the monetary policies and outlook toward interest rates, GDP and inflation.

And so it begins.

 

The inevitable down days, broad sell-offs, panic, etc. are upon us. May God have mercy on our souls.

 

When the stock market is moving vertically higher or even sideways, investors take down days in stride. But when an already skittish crowd sees nearly eight in 10 stocks down on the major market indices or 90% of volume on the New York Stock Exchange in the red, it's only natural that investors wonder what to do and how to react.

 

First, let us assess what is happening and why. Then we can approach the matter properly.
