Dear Friend of Wildlife, There's no denying that we've had some very bad news lately. Tanzania has lost 60% of its elephants since 2009. Half of Mozambique's elephants have been killed in just five years. And elsewhere, numbers of many other species are continuing to decline, from gorillas and orangutans to Sumatran rhinos and vultures. And yet, I feel energized and determined. Why? Because a growing movement is taking shape – a movement composed of people who care deeply about preserving these beautiful animals, from elephants to tigers to sharks. People willing to stand up and say "enough is enough." In short, people just like you. And right now, in this time of great need, we have an incredible opportunity. We just received word that an anonymous donor is willing to kickstart our new fiscal year by offering to match every gift donated to WCS until midnight tonight – up to $20,000. This is a rare chance to see your dollars doubled – will you make a gift today? Meeting this match means your dollars will go twice as far for wildlife – that means more resources to crack down on the brutal, illegal trade in wildlife parts; more resources to train and equip the guards that protect threatened species in the field; more resources for the kind of groundbreaking research that inspires governments, corporations, and individuals to take action. Simply put, it means more funds for the most important wildlife conservation battles of our time. I'm confident that we can turn that additional funding into something great. Here are just a few highlights from the last year.
This is the kind of work that you become a part of when you support wildlife with a gift to WCS. I know you're the kind of person that wants to live in a world where wildlife thrives, free from human-induced threats such as poaching and habitat loss. A world where elephants, tigers, gorillas, and sharks aren't threatened with being wiped off the face of the earth. I know you're this person, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this email. We're in a race against time – and I'm so glad you're on our side. Sincerely, Liz Bennett |
