Together, We Made Big Things Happen in 2015
Check Out the Victories You Made Possible

Dear UCS supporter,

In this season of thanks, all of us at the Union of Concerned Scientists are especially grateful for your partnership. The challenges we faced in 2015 were daunting, but we made serious progress this year—thanks to the outstanding support from people like you. There's a lot more to do, but today we can celebrate the great things we've done together.

Here are just a few of the victories you made possible this year, or click here to see the full list of victories.

Thanks to your steady support, decades of industry deception on climate were exposed—and got results. Our groundbreaking report, The Climate Deception Dossiers, used internal corporate memos to document that the world's largest fossil fuel companies have deceived the public about the realities and risks of climate change for the past three decades. The report—and grassroots pressure from UCS supporters who sent more than 120,000 messages—helped push Shell to sever ties with the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). Thanks to you, the Clean Power Plan was strengthened. Today, the Clean Power Plan—historic standards to reduce global warming emissions from power plants—is the most ambitious action the United States has taken to fight climate change. But as originally drafted, it lowballed the role renewable energy could play in reducing emissions. UCS analysts and supporters showed that the United States could nearly double the amount of renewable energy in the plan, and the Environmental Protection Agency listened, incorporating nearly all our recommendations. You helped turn the tide in the fight against tropical deforestation. In 2015, UCS worked directly with seven major companies—Avon, Clorox, Costco, McDonald's, and Yum! Brands (owner of KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell)—securing commitments from each to use only deforestation-free palm oil. Read about other victories for the environment >>

Your actions and financial support made these victories possible. And because of your enthusiastic, ongoing support, I know we'll be ready to capitalize on these wins and make even more progress in the weeks and months to come.

Thanks for fighting with us for a better, safer, healthier world.

Sincerely,
