Amazing Geek Tattoos Spotted At the 2016 San Diego Comic Con

Posted: 02 Aug 2016 03:59 AM PDT

Geeky people with tattoos tend to have geeky tattoos, so it's no wonder that you can find some amazing geek tattoos at the San Diego Comic Con. Here are a few of the best and coolest tattoos we spotted at the convention.

The Sexiest Witch King In Town

Even the most dedicated Lord of the Rings fan has probably never seen the Witch-King of Angmar like this. You know what they say -if you've got it, flaunt it.

Don't Mess With These Ladies

Some girls like princesses that follow all the rules, like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, but others like girls who defy authority.

That's why she had the princesses Daenerys, Merida and Mulan tattooed on her sleeve.

Of course, strong female role models don't end with princesses. These Gotham City femme fatales also belonged to the same woman, Ms. Melissa Romero. All of her work was completed by Steve Rieck, a Las Vegas artist who has a particular interest in doing geeky tattoos.

There Couldn't Be a More Fitting Place

A comic book cover tattoo on someone at Comic Con? I think he found his true home.

With Our Powers Combined

You don't want to mess with the superpowered team on this guy's leg.

Scary Good Work

It takes a lot of dedication to wrap your whole calf muscle with a tribute to a horror movie.

So if you're going to put that much time, pain and money into fandom for a movie, it better be good.

And this guy chose one of the most beloved horror trilogies ever to decorate his leg, so I think he made the right choice.

Old School Horror Matters

Then again, there's nothing wrong with the classics either.

Out of This World

Aliens are always scary, but it's hard not to love them when they're this well done. Gil Macias got this great piece done by Bok.

A Stitch in Time

As a huge fan of all things Stitch and someone who always cries at the scene where he wanders off in the woods to find his family, this tattoo is my personal favorite.

It's GIR-eat

When I asked if I could take a picture of this girl's GIR tattoo, she said "absolutely...

as long as you take a picture of this one too." I was happy to oblige.

The Best Neighbor

This gal was wearing a Totoro shirt that perfectly matched her Totoro tattoo. Something tells me she's a fan.

One Good Tattoo Deserves Another

Here's another lovely lady wearing clothes that match their tattoo perfectly. I think Harley would love that dress.

Although this fangirl also has a soft spot for The Nightmare Before Christmas and she has the Pumpkinhead Jack Skellington tattoo to prove it.

Wearing Her Burton on Her Sleeve

And here's another Tim Burton fan with lovely tributes to The Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie.

The Force is Strong With This One

The top of this gal's arm featured the Light Side...

while the back featured the Dark Side. It's good to know the Force is balanced on her tattoo.

Aren't You A Little Cute for A Star Wars Tattoo?

Why LEGO Star Wars? Because everything, even Star Wars, is better in LEGO.

And below the LEGO tattoo, this girl had a piece that somehow managed to make BB-8 even cuter than he already is naturally.

He's No Good to Me Dead

If you think it's bad luck to disrupt an Indian burial ground, just wait until you see what happens when you upset a storm trooper burial ground. I don't actually know what would happen, but I'd love to see it.

She Wants to be Where the People Are

And fortunately for Ariel, all the people are at San Diego Comic Con, so she finally made it.

On the down side, Ursula was following close behind her.

That's all from this year, but if you haven't got your fill of geeky tattoos, don't miss our article from last year. And if you want to see more coverage from this year's Comic Con, don't miss our cosplay article and even more cosplay featured on Rue The Day.

The Wealthiest Counties in the U.S

Posted: 02 Aug 2016 01:59 AM PDT

The Code Black Group has a map that shows where the wealthiest and poorest counties in the U.S. are based on the median income for each. What’s even more interesting is the list that accompanies it that has all the counties in the U.S. in rank order. The top eight have median incomes over $100K and five of them are right around the District of Columbia. While the title draws you to focus on the wealthiest, I was surprised to find my county, and most of the counties surrounding mine, in the very bottom twenty. They also did a similar map and ranking of counties by the percentage of the population with a bachelor’s degree, and the lists are a lot alike. -via Digg

Road Tripping Across America As A Muslim Man

Posted: 02 Aug 2016 12:00 AM PDT

Islamophobia is at an all time high here in America, with the fear of ISIS attacks and terrorist acts on everyone's minds.

So imagine what it must be like to be a Muslim man of Arabic descent here in America these days...scary, right?

Now imagine what it would be like for this muslim guy to take a road trip across the U.S., stopping off in some of the most hate-filled cities in America while fitting a racial profile.

Well, as always America is full of surprises, and even though the media makes us think Vice journalist Abdullah Saeed would be shot on sight in certain states his trip was actually quite pleasant.

Bizarre, but pleasant. (NSFW due to language)

(YouTube Link)

In the summer of 2015 Abdullah Saeed, Wilbert L. Cooper and Martina de Alba went road tripping from L.A. to D.C. in an RV for a show on Viceland called Vice Does America.

After watching a few episodes it seems to me like it's a more realistic look at today's America than the news media portrays, with less fear and more brotherhood.

8 Things You Might Not Know About Harley Quinn

Posted: 01 Aug 2016 09:59 PM PDT

Batman fans are looking forward to the movie Suicide Squad not least because of Harley Quinn, the Joker’s sexy sidekick who became a fan favorite, played by Margot Robbie. The wait will be over this coming weekend, and to get ready for the movie, you might want to brush up on Harley Quinn history and some trivia about the Harley Quinn. She was born on TV, and became a comic book character later on.

Originally intended to be nothing beyond a walk-on, Harley (in her typical stubborn fashion) defied expectations. Resonating with viewers and writers alike, Harley earned her own origin story in the now classic Mad Love comic (which was later adapted into an episode of the New Batman Adventures in 1999) and has since become a fan favorite, going on to appear as a side character in a multitude of animated series, features and comics, (e.g. Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Batman: Assault on Arkham, Injustice: Gods Among Us) and been given her own solo runs with heavyweight contributors the likes of Terry Dodson, Karl Kesel and Amanda Conner. Harley just won’t quit.

The Hilarious Pet Contract One Dad Put Together for His Kids

Posted: 01 Aug 2016 07:59 PM PDT

Kids love pets, but parents aren't always on board -especially if they think they'll get stuck having to take care of the animal. That's why many families write up pet contracts to help make the children understand all the responsibilities associated with owning a dog or cat. The thing is though, usually they aren't as damn hilarious as this contract. I just hope they don't actually surgically remove its paws.

The Highlight of the Ceremony

A bride and groom are repeating their wedding vows when those in attendance get a reason to pay attention.

Gross Bodily Functions Humanity Developed On Purpose

Posted: 01 Aug 2016 01:59 PM PDT

Animals aren't the only ones who have developed gross bodily functions to help keep them safe in various ways- the human animal has evolved some slightly repulsive yet extremely effective tricks too.

For example- a new theory suggests teenagers get acne to repel potential mates until they're mature enough to care for their child.

(Image Link)

There's also a theory that zits make younger males appear to be less of a threat to older males, so they don't get eliminated from the mating game before they've even begun.

Those theories may sound like a bit of a stretch, but the theory that contagious vomiting helped prevent mass poisonings sounds like a solid concept to me.

So does the idea of humans fainting at the sight of blood to help them survive grievous bodily injury, since our blood pressure and heart rate slow down quite a bit while we're unconscious.

Fainting also helped us survive by working as a "play dead" device during our caveman days, making it more likely for an attacker to leave the victim alone after they've passed out due to injury.

Behind The Scenes Photos From Pink Floyd's The Wall

Posted: 01 Aug 2016 01:00 PM PDT

The music of Pink Floyd has changed so many lives since they made their debut with the seminal psych rock album The Piper at the Gates Of Dawn back in 1967.

So when the movie adaptation of The Wall came out in 1982 it naturally touched audiences deeply as well, and Bob Geldof's performance as Pink left us all ready and willing to tear down our walls so we don't self-destruct.

But as you can see from these behind-the-scenes photos from The Wall there was a kind of schizophrenic feeling to the production, as if they were making different films with vastly different voices.

And yet after watching the film you can see how this filmmaking madness came together as a work of pure genius, and all the production wars were fought for the sake of Pink Floyd fans the world over.

Documentaries That Actually Made A Difference

Posted: 01 Aug 2016 12:00 PM PDT

Documentaries tend to do exactly what their name implies- document some aspect of our lives, typically to illustrate a point or profile a particular person, event or era.

This often dry yet information rich form of cinema has proven to be an extremely effective way to sway the public opinion, making soapboxers seem like champions of justice.

And yet sometimes soapboxing is a good thing, as it demands people pay attention to an issue in need of repair, which is when documentaries can actually make a difference in the world.

(YouTube Link)

Remember Blackfish, the documentary that made Sea World's stock plummet? Love or hate the message you must admit the film made good points, and it forced Sea World to change their practices for the sake of mammalian sea life.

The Cove similarly shed light on the fact that dolphins were being slaughtered in ridiculously high numbers for no good reason, and since the film's debut the number of dolphins captured annually in Japan has dropped by 75%.

But documentaries don't just save animal lives- The Thin Blue Line helped free Randall Dale Adams just days before he was set to die by lethal injection for the murder of a police officer that he didn't commit.

The 10 Saddest Cartoon Episodes Ever

Posted: 01 Aug 2016 10:59 AM PDT

"Heart of Ice" is often regarded as the greatest episode of Batman: The Animated Series. In this beautifully-directed story, Mr. Freeze is the most sympathetic of Batman villains.

(Video Link)

It was a wrenching episode ranked among Watch Mojo's grand list of the 10 saddest cartoon episodes ever. Among them are tragedies from The Simpsons, Family Guy, Rugrats, and, most importantly, the Ice King origin story from Adventure Time.

In a longer list, I would have included the Exosquad episode "Ultimatum." James Burns, a leader of the Venusian resistence, dies gallantly fighting his own people. James is finally at rest. But now his sister, Nara Burns, has lost her entire family in the war. Later, things get worse for her.

Monster Sculptures So Lifelike They'll Give You Nightmares

Posted: 01 Aug 2016 10:00 AM PDT

Most of us outgrow our fear of monsters by the time we're old enough to buy booze, but monsters have the ability to reinvent themselves and scare us when we feel we're beyond being scared of "kid's stuff".

These terrifying reinventions are created by hard working monster lovers like Arizona based artist Josh Leichliter, who spend their time creating creatures guaranteed to keep us up at night.

Josh's amazing monsters sculptures are head and fangs above the rest in terms of realism, and if their terrifying features don't make you break out in a cold sweat those eyes that seem to stare straight into your soul certainly will.

Trenchcoat Detective Agency - Solving Crimes In Style

Posted: 01 Aug 2016 08:00 AM PDT

Trenchcoat Detective Agency by Paulychilds

If crimes were committed in a world devoid of detectives the whole place would fall to pieces- literally, because people would be killing each other left and right. Thankfully, we live in a world where crime is countered by great detective work, and many of the televised greats, such as Sherlock, Columbo Poirot and Gene Hunt, share one fashion feature in common- the trenchcoat. It gives the wearer a classic crime fighter look while hiding their criminology supplies, and when they're walking around and the killer's identity suddenly occurs to them the scene just isn't complete without that trenchcoat flapping in the breeze. You could fight crime while wearing something other than a trenchcoat, but you simply would not look as cool!

Celebrate your favorite fashionable TV detectives with this Trenchcoat Detective Agency t-shirt by Paulychilds, it'd be a crime not to own it if you're a fan of serial detective shows!
