| Posted: 05 Nov 2016 12:00 AM PDT Since there's a lot of snow and the date stamp on this dashcam video is October 30, we can assume this happened in Russia. Also the video description is in Russian. This guy stopped on a single-lane country road to talk to another driver, or relieve himself, or something. Then this happens. Manual transmissions can slip out of gear! Even automatics can slip out of gear when they get really old and decrepit. Always set your parking brake. We don't know how bad the vehicle was damaged, but the dash cam video was fine. -via Digg | ||||||||

They've found that people respond more if that advice is in the form of a song. This one is about marijuana brownies. See, putting pot in your brownie mix sparks a new violation under Texas law: the entire recipe is considered a controlled substance, so the weight of your brownie mix adds to the crime. A tiny amount of marijuana added to a pound of brownie mix will get you a felony charge. Take their advice, and don't do it in Texas. What you really want to do is check out their other videos, especially the one about medical malpractice lawsuits. | Photographer Tests Her Skills With A One Dollar Camera Posted: 04 Nov 2016 06:00 PM PDT Amateur photographers often assume more expensive cameras will take better pictures, but photography is all about vision and composition so it doesn't have to be an expensive hobby. In fact, there are plenty of pros out there who get by just fine with moderately priced equipment, because when it comes to cameras a higher price rarely equals noticeably better photos. To prove this point photographer Skyler Adams picked up an old Canon Sure Shot and an expired roll of film in a Japanese thrift store for a buck each, shooting exclusively with that cheapo camera for a month. Skyler's shots prove a cheap camera and an expired roll of film can take photographs that are virtually impossible to tell apart from digital pics, and the entire exercise only cost her ten bucks! -Via PetaPixel | ||||||||

But Tom Morphet is proud of what he's built. After working at the Chilkat Valley News in Haines, Alaska, for 25 years, he bought the newspaper five years ago.
Morphet tried to sell the paper -at a great loss- to his only reporter, but the deal fell through. Meanwhile, he is running for a seat in the Haines Borough Assembly. But the real story is Morphet's biography, from the advice he got in college to his accidental job at a fish-processing plant to his adventures in local journalism. | Injured Motorcyclist Records Heartfelt Goodbye Videos To Family After Crash Posted: 04 Nov 2016 02:00 PM PDT You know how they say your life flashes before your eyes when you're in mortal danger? Well, if you're one of the lucky ones who survives the life flashing phase you may start to wonder how much time you have left on Earth- and what remains unsaid between you and your loved ones. On October 15th motorcyclist Kevin Diepenbrock and his co-worker Phillip Polito slipped and crashed on the famously deadly Dragon's Tail in Deals Gap, North Carolina. Polito died in the crash, and Kevin suffered serious injuries that included "two punctured lungs, 17 breaks in 12 ribs and multiple spine fractures", injuries that made him think his days might be numbered. So Kevin pulled out his smartphone and started recording a raw and heartfelt video of what he thought were his final goodbyes. Kevin survived and was rescued 30 hours later, and now he's a lucky man on the mend with a tragic tale to tell and the video footage to prove it. -Via Laughing Squid | ||||||||

Which is probably one of the reasons why he backed and produced Jovanka Vuckovic's spooky short film The Captured Bird, that and the story seems like something Guillermo would have written. | Posted: 04 Nov 2016 07:00 AM PDT Turkish photographer Mehmet Genç goes by the online name Rotasiz Seyyah, which translates to "non-route traveler." His latest project involves taking a picture of a women, then telling her that she is beautiful, then taking another picture of her reaction. The series is called You Are So Beautiful. The two images together are repeated in places all over Central and South America, but the reactions are strikingly similar: a broad smile, sometimes tinged with a bit of disbelief or sudden shyness. The faces are quite joyous. They make you hope that Genç continues to spread such happiness. There's a lot of commentary on the full set of pictures at Genç's project page at his site, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to translate it into English. Best of all, Instructable user jdgrosky actually wrote detailed instructions on how to make your own version of the costume -of course, part of what makes this one so lovable is the fact that this Sauron is actually a little kid so you're probably never going to beat this one. |
