As salaamu alaykum, Indiana—
As you read this message right now, about 1,500 Palestinian people in the neighborhood of Silwan in East Jerusalem are resisting Israeli bulldozers coming to destroy their homes and push them out.1
For some families, those bulldozers could arrive as soon as today.
We're showing up on the phones and in the streets in solidarity, alongside Jewish Voice For Peace and thousands of people of conscience, for a Day of Action to stop Israel's ethnic cleansing.
We can change their narrative today, but we have to act now. Flood their phones! ACT NOW
This latest chapter may have been especially brutal — but we know it's part of a larger story.
Mass arrests. Beatings. Teargassing. Spraying toxic, chemical skunkwater. Bombing Gaza and murdering Palestinian people in a deeply dehumanizing mass retaliation to Palestinian dignity and self-defense.
We're witnessing ethnic cleansing before our eyes in real time, while U.S. tax dollars fund this ongoing violence.
Israel has occupied Palestinian land for decades, and instituted laws forcing Palestinians to live second-class lives marked with repression and militarized violence - which no less a global human rights monitor than Human Rights Watch has designated as Apartheid.2
The past few months have clearly shown that the world is waking up to one essential truth: Palestinians deserve to live life free of military occupation, restricted movement, and other forms of state and settler violence.
We know all too well that there could be no Israeli apartheid without U.S. backing and the $3.8 Billion that the U.S. allocates each year to funding Israel's military.
Right now, Pelosi and Schumer are hoping this issue isn't something they're forced to comment on. They hope it quiets down. They know that making excuses for an apartheid state's racist violence is getting increasingly politically risky for them.
Let's make sure that doesn't work out for them.
Let's act now to make sure Congress must acknowledge what's happening, and act.
Thank you for everything you do.
In solidarity,
Sijal, Linda, Lau and the MPower Change team
