She has tied Shannon Miller as the most decorated U.S. gymnast, with seven medals in her Olympic career. China's Guan Chenchen won gold. [HuffPost]
FOURTH OFFICER DIES BY SUICIDE AFTER CAPITOL ATTACK Four police officers who responded to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol have now died by suicide. News of the third and fourth officers, Gunther Hashida and Kyle DeFreytag, came within hours of each other on Monday. Several officers who responded to the Jan. 6 riot spoke before Congress about the day's events last week, detailing the horrors of the day and the ongoing mental anguish. [HuffPost]
U.S. HITS VAX TARGET A MONTH LATE The U.S. finally reached President Joe Biden's goal of getting at least one COVID-19 shot in the arms of 70% of American adults ― a month late and amid a fierce surge by the delta variant that is swamping hospitals and leading to new mask rules and mandatory vaccinations around the country. PELOSI STILL WANTS BIDEN TO REINSTATE EVICTION MORATORIUM, BUT... House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is still holding out hope that Biden will do something about the lapsed eviction moratorium. But the administration isn't budging, maintaining that it doesn't have legal authority to do so. The White House is encouraging states and cities to establish their own eviction moratoriums for the next two months. [HuffPost]

GABRIELLE GIFFORDS RUMINATES ON A DECADE BACK IN WASHINGTON Ten years ago, then-Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords returned to Congress seven months after a gunman shot her and killed six people during an event in Tucson, Arizona. Her surprise appearance was hailed as a unifying, bipartisan moment at the time. She recently spoke with HuffPost about how she now sees bipartisan moments like this as few and far between. [HuffPost]
WHAT THE TUCK? CARLSON IN HUNGARY. Fox News host Tucker Carlson will speak at a far-right conference in Budapest later this week after meeting with Hungary's authoritarian leader, Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Carlson has openly praised the Orban government, calling Hungary a "pro-family country" and praising its leadership's anti-immigration policies. [HuffPost]
MAGA SOCIAL MEDIA HAS AN ISIS PROBLEM Gettr — the pro-Trump, anti-censorship Twitter clone launched by former Trump spokesperson Jason Miller — is full of Islamic State propaganda, according to an investigation by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, a think tank that tracks extremism online. The targeting of conservative and far-right platforms is a deliberate ISIS tactic. [HuffPost]
READY FOR 18-YEAR-OLD TRUCK DRIVERS? People under the age of 21 could get a chance to work as long-haul truck drivers, thanks to a bipartisan infrastructure bill that could soon pass the U.S. Senate. The bill would establish an apprenticeship program that would let 18- to 21-year-olds cross state lines in 18-wheelers ― a small win for the freight industry on top of the bill's $100 billion investment in roadways. [HuffPost]
PENTAGON RUBBER-STAMPS POLICE REQUESTS FOR MILITARY GEAR Police are citing racial justice protests and routine 911 calls to ask for armored vehicles built for a battlefield — and the Defense Department is buying it, a HuffPost investigation has found. Make some time for this important story that shows how far local police departments are willing to go to get taxpayers to buy them battle-ready gear. [HuffPost]
