The Delta variant of the coronavirus appears to cause more severe illness than earlier variants and spreads far more quickly, according to an internal CDC document covered in the Washington Post. The variant may be more infectious than the common cold and as infectious as chickenpox.
In an exclusive interview with Healthline published Friday, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky spoke about new data on the Delta variant. According to the data, a vaccinated person who contracts the Delta variant may be able to pass it on to others. "For those rare people, we thought it was really important for those people to know that they are at risk of giving disease to someone else," Walensky said.
Researchers are concerned that survivors of COVID-19 infection may experience long-term consequences that include dementia, according to USA Today. With large numbers of people complaining of "brain fog," attention problems, and confusion after their illness, scientists are examining whether COVID-19 has long-term consequences for brain health.
