Report: The state of the creator economy

There are around 200 million creators worldwide, 4 million of whom have over 100,000 followers, and they favor Facebook over TikTok, according to a Linktree report. The research reveals the top monetization strategies for creators are selling their own products, affiliate marketing, influencer marketing and ads, but 59% of beginner creators haven't yet monetized, which could be good news for marketers looking to collaborate with them.

Retailers and brands are increasingly embracing text messaging as a less costly and more effective marketing channel than email and paid social media. Men's soap company Dr. Squatch, for example, attracted customers with discounts for opting in to text messaging, and the channel now drives about 15% of the brand's more than $200 million in revenue.

TikTok has emerged as a boon to beauty brands, as a few words of influencer praise can deplete a product's inventory for months, and the channel's shopping platform is driving immediate sales, writes Gisselle Gaitan. The influence of social commerce will "cut across every consumer category, across products and services, and will impact every platform, brand and retailer, as social commerce will grow three times faster than traditional e-commerce on a compound annual basis," according to an Accenture report.
