| 9-year-old recounts harrowing moments in Uvalde classroom as lawmakers discuss gun reform: Following last week's deadly shooting in Uvalde, Texas, "serious" bipartisan negotiations are underway on a new gun law intended to reduce future killings, Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., said Sunday. Murphy, a passionate advocate for gun law reform, said negotiations with Republican senators include discussion of so-called "red flag" laws, expansion of the federal background check system, safe storage, mental health resources and increased security funding for schools. President Joe Biden, who visited Uvalde over the weekend with first lady Jill Biden, also pledged to push for gun compromise, but reiterated that it is up to Congress to act. Meanwhile, more questions from the shooting have emerged, including when law enforcement actually responded to the shooting and entered the school. The Justice Department said it will conduct a critical incident review to examine what happened after eyewitnesses have come forward and pointed out the discrepancies in the timeline of events.
