As salaamu alaykum, Indiana—
From the MPower Change team to you and yours: Eid Mubarak!
On Eid al-Fitr, we wish a bittersweet farewell to the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan is always an opportunity to worship, to reflect, and to reconnect with our faith, our communities, and ourselves.
This Ramadan, we've been especially focused on being in solidarity with those seeking refuge around the globe. And the way we're going to mark the end of Ramadan, and celebrate Eid, is no different.
Eid should be a joyous day, of celebrating together with loved ones — but for so many families still separated more than a year since the formal end of the Muslim Ban, celebrating together, in person, is still not possible.
Let's wish each other "Eid Mubarak!" — and still keep our hearts full for those who cannot be with us in person. #ReuniteFamilies
When we join our families and communities in celebration, we know that there are those out there who are not as fortunate.
Many don't realize that there are families still separated by Trump's Muslim and African Bans. They are people who have not been able to celebrate Eid with their loved ones. Just because the Muslim Ban was rescinded on paper doesn't mean the families separated by it can move forward and reunite.
Not at all.
Restarting the process is unclear, expensive, time-consuming, and for families that have sometimes already given everything they have to reunite, only to have Trump's racist policy keep them apart, it's still deeply ambiguous with no guarantee of reunification.
Because when we say #NoMuslimBanEver, we mean No. Muslim. Ban. EVER.
We wish all who observe a joyous Eid Al-Fitr.
Amidst all the hardships, we are, and we remain, worthy of joy and celebration.
آمين
In solidarity,
Linda and the MPower Change team
