| | | Buffalo supermarket to reopen two months after the mass shooting: A federal grand jury returned an indictment Thursday charging the alleged Buffalo, New York, mass shooter with federal hate crimes. The indictment starts the clock for Attorney General Merrick Garland to consider the death penalty. Payton Gendron, then 18, is accused of storming a Tops grocery store on May 14 and gunning down 10 people, all of whom were Black, in an alleged hate crime. Two months following the mass shooting, a moment of silence and prayer service were held Thursday to rededicate the supermarket in which the names of the victims were read out loud. "This is the day when we declare that hate did not win,” New York State Attorney General Letitia James said to the those who gathered Thursday. The store officially reopens on Friday after undergoing extensive renovations to repair the damage left by the mass shooting, in which the suspected gunman fired more than 60 shots from a high-powered, AR-15-style rifle. | 📰 Stories We're Watching 📰
🥀 Former President Donald Trump's ex-wife, Ivana Trump, has died at age 73 on Thursday, the family told ABC News. The former president said she died at her home in New York City.
🏛️ WNBA star Brittney Griner appeared in a Russian court on Thursday morning for the third day of her trial, as the Biden administration works to secure her release. Griner did not testify but three Russian individuals testified as character witnesses about their experiences with the basketball star including one of Griner's Russian teammates.
🌍 President Joe Biden dodged questions Thursday about whether he would set a deadline for stalled negotiations over Iran's nuclear program following a meeting with Israel's prime minister, who urged the United States to put a "credible military threat" on the table against Iran. Biden said that the U.S. would consider using military force "as a last resort." Biden will meet with Saudi leaders Friday while abroad.
