| Buffalo supermarket to reopen two months after the mass shooting: A federal grand jury returned an indictment Thursday charging the alleged Buffalo, New York, mass shooter with federal hate crimes. The indictment starts the clock for Attorney General Merrick Garland to consider the death penalty. Payton Gendron, then 18, is accused of storming a Tops grocery store on May 14 and gunning down 10 people, all of whom were Black, in an alleged hate crime. Two months following the mass shooting, a moment of silence and prayer service were held Thursday to rededicate the supermarket in which the names of the victims were read out loud. "This is the day when we declare that hate did not win,” New York State Attorney General Letitia James said to the those who gathered Thursday.
