A Message from Ann

A message from Congresswoman Ann Wagner

Dear ,

Recently, the House passed my legislation, H.R. 8453, the Upholding the Dayton Peace Agreement Through Sanctions Act, which codifies tough sanctions to deter and punish bad actors who are destabilizing Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Less than a week after the House passed my bill, the U.S. Treasury Department took note and announced new sanctions on Diana Kajmakovic, a state prosecutor in Bosnia and Herzegovina who has used her office to help criminal enterprises and narcotraffickers hide evidence and avoid prosecution. This is an important step towards accountability for the criminals and self-serving politicians who are threatening to tear the country apart, and I hope the United States will be vigilant in imposing and enforcing further sanctions.

Read more about my bill here.

I supported legislation to alleviate the baby formula shortage and help new mothers get the formula they need to feed their children. It is unconscionable the Biden Administration allowed the shortage to get so bad and cause so many children to go hungry, but rest assured I will keep working to ensure mothers have the support they need from Congress

I was proud to join my Missouri colleagues in honoring one of the most influential public servants from our great state, President Harry S. Truman, as we unveiled a statue in the United States Capitol honoring his life. President Truman served our nation at every level, from enlisting in the Missouri National Guard, to fighting in France during World War I, serving as a judge, representing our state in the United States Senate, and finally leading our nation as Commander-in-Chief. President Truman’s statue in the U.S. Capitol will serve as an important reminder of his long-lasting legacy and dedication to our country.

Last week was Rosh Hashanah. Shana Tova to all our friends who celebrated!

I spoke on the House Floor in support of sanctions for the nearly 200 Russians linked to the Putin regime’s pervasive corruption and human rights violations.

These enablers and supporters of Putin’s unprovoked war of aggression should not be able to set foot in the United States of America. They should not be able to enjoy their ill-gotten wealth here. They should not be able to buy expensive homes here. And they should not be able to send their children to schools here.

Failing to act would be a great disservice to the victims of Putin’s depravity not just in Ukraine, but those in Russia as well who have suffered from the Kremlin’s domestic crackdown. Watch my remarks here.

I also gave remarks in support of the Peace Corps reauthorization bill. As the Vice Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I know how the Peace Corps has played an important role in America’s foreign assistance efforts, and I want to thank the volunteers who have selflessly given their time to do good work abroad.  Tragically, the number of volunteers reporting sexual assault during their service has risen. This is devastating, and we must continue to hold the Peace Corps accountable for maximizing the safety and welfare of our volunteers. The Peace Corps Reauthorization Act would institute reforms that would do just that.

Watch my remarks here to learn more about the bill.

Sincerely,

Ann Wagner
Member of Congress
