⛈️ The death toll from Hurricane Ian is nearing 100 people in Florida, with an additional four people in North Carolina who reportedly died due to the storm. Economic damages caused by the hurricane, which hit the southwest coastline of Florida as a Category 4 storm, could reach upward of $75 billion, according to some projections, making it one of the costliest storms in national history. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden are on a tour to survey damages caused by hurricanes. They landed in Puerto Rico on Monday, which was hard-hit by Hurricane Fiona, and will visit Florida on Wednesday to assess the devastation caused by Hurricane Ian.

🚨 North Korea fired what appears to be a ballistic missile over Japan, according to officials. The missile was launched at 7:22 a.m. local time and passed over Japan at 7:29 a.m., the Japanese Ministry of Defense said. The government of South Korea confirmed that the Japanese government warned citizens to take shelter and issued an alert to avoid picking up or touching potential debris.

⚠️ The United States is taking Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent nuclear threats seriously and is "ready and prepared" to defend every inch of NATO territory, a Pentagon official told ABC News. More than six months after Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine, the two countries are engaged in a struggle for control over eastern and southern areas of Ukraine. Pope Francis directed his Sunday sermon at Putin, calling on him to "stop this spiral of violence and death."

💰 Kim Kardashian was ordered to pay $1.26 million to settle civil charges brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission over a social media post the reality star made to promote a crypto asset security, while allegedly failing to disclose the $250,000 payment she received for the promotion.

👑 King Charles III appeared in his first public engagement since the death of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II. The king and his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, greeted hundreds of well-wishers during a visit to Scotland.
