Morning Rundown 🤍 The death toll in the Monterey Park mass shooting rose to 11 people and nine others remain injured after a 72-year-old gunman allegedly opened fire at a crowded dance studio celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year on Saturday night. Police said the alleged suspect was found dead on Sunday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a van. 🚨 Seven people were killed Monday in a shooting at two locations in Half Moon Bay, California, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said. One person was also taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The suspect was identified as Chunli Zhao, 67. Police are still investigating and a motive is unknown at this time. 🗣️ The family of Tyre Nichols, along with attorneys Ben Crump and Antonio Romanucci, spoke out after viewing video footage of Tyre Nichols' interaction with five Memphis police officers. Nichols, who died three days later, was hospitalized in critical condition after complaining of shortness of breath during the arrest. 💉 The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is considering a new COVID-19 vaccine strategy that would see Americans getting a single annual shot, similar to the flu vaccine. According to briefing documents published Monday, the new approach would simplify public health messaging on when to get COVID vaccines, with the hope that making the guidance easier for people to understand could potentially increase vaccination rates in the U.S. 🏈 There wasn't a dry eye on the field when a Marine dad surprised his son at football practice after monthslong deployment.
