A message from Simon Calder
Hello and welcome to The Independent's new travel newsletter, which will arrive in your inbox every Friday morning. In it, I'll be bringing you the best destinations and deals from around the world. Ever since The Independent launched in 1986, travel has been part of its DNA: celebrating the increasing freedom – and reducing cost – to explore the world. We have always aimed to provide inspiration for great experiences – whether a British beach, a European city or a wilderness on the other side of the planet. In March 2020 that mission was put on pause. But we've never stopped dreaming of journeys and adventures - and finding the best value ways for you to experience them. Here at the travel desk of The Independent, we continue our decades-long policy of encouraging responsible travel: planning a journey thoughtfully, choosing the lowest-impact means to reach your destination and maximising the benefits of tourism to host communities. Each week, I will provide the essential, impartial information that will help make your journeys better value, more rewarding and safer. The 21st century will offer limitless opportunities for the traveller, and we will be here to guide you. |
