| ⚖️ A grand jury will reconvene on Wednesday to continue to weigh charges against former President Donald Trump in connection with the Manhattan district attorney's probe into the 2016 alleged hush payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. The U.S. Secret Service is coordinating security plans with the New York Police Department in the event of an indictment and arraignment in an open courtroom in Manhattan, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News. No current or former president has ever been indicted for criminal conduct. 🗣️ Nearly half a million Los Angeles public school students didn't attend school Tuesday after tens of thousands of service workers, backed by the powerful teachers union, went on strike and forced school closures. The 30,000 members of the service employees union are demanding higher wages and better working conditions. Many parents said they are standing behind the service workers, including some who plan to walk the picket line with the striking employees. ⚠️ A recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that the potentially deadly fungus, Candida auris, is spreading rapidly through U.S. health care facilities. Although C. auris does not present a threat to most healthy people, and infections are rare, it can affect vulnerable groups of people and can be resistant to several classes of drugs. ⛷️ Actress Gwenyth Paltrow appeared in court Tuesday to begin the civil trial for a ski accident that occurred more than seven years ago today. A retired optometrist filed a lawsuit accusing Paltrow of crashing into him at the Utah-based Deer Valley Ski Resort in 2016. The actress has denied causing the collision and, in a countersuit, claimed it was the optometrist who crashed into her, delivering a full "body blow" from behind. 🐢 The Houston Zoo is celebrating its oldest resident, Mr. Pickles the tortoise, who became a first-time dad of three at the age of 90. | |
