As salaamu alaykum, Indiana —
This is time-sensitive, so I'm just going to cut to the chase.
March 20th marked the 20th anniversary of the disastrous U.S. Invasion of Iraq.
The Senate just voted to move forward on consideration of the repeal of the 2002 Iraq Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), with a final vote on the bill now expected as early as Thursday, March 23rd.
Can you take a second now to email your Senators to ask they support repealing the 2002 Iraq AUMF?
We're at a critical moment to finally repeal the 2002 AUMF — there's a large bipartisan effort on and off Capitol Hill poised to make this happen.
President Biden has indicated support for a bipartisan bill from Senator Tim Kaine (S.316), that would repeal both the 2002 and 1991 Authorizations for Use of Military Force against Iraq.
A vote on the final bill is expected to happen this week.
The U.S. Invasion of Iraq was a historic and shameful tragedy. On the 20th anniversary of its outset, we have a unique opportunity to end travesties like it from happening again.
Take action: Urge the Senate RIGHT NOW to repeal the 2002 AUMF.
This week's vote would be the first-ever floor vote on repealing the Iraq War authorization in the Senate.
We have the votes to finally repeal these outdated war authorities that have been used not just to make possible the Iraq War that began 20 years ago, but literal decades of militarism, human rights violations, and endless wars.
Thanks to the collective organizing of our movements over the past 20 years, we can finally win this for good. Let's not squander that opportunity.
With just one click, email your Senators and demand an end to endless wars now.
Thank you for all you do.
