Hey Indiana, One thing great jazz musicians are doing is adding chord substitutions.  So for example, here's a super common jazz chord progression.

You'd find this 1-6-2-5 chord progression in rhythm changes tunes, like Oleo. But jazz musicians may change the chords on a whim while they are soloing or even comping to something like this:
